Alpinia officinale, is a commonly used spice plant in Southeast Asian and Guangdong cuisine. It is a common seasoning in Chaozhou cuisine, especially when cooking Chaoshan braised flavor. It is also used as a medicinal plant. It is similar to ginger in taste and function.
